The Fish + Forest Project based out of McGill university in Montreal, Canada was created to look at the disappearing habitat of endemic species all over the world. We have a special focus on highly endemic fishes, as they are easily affected by human encroachment, deforestation, mining, agriculture and global warming. Using GIS techniques we can track forest and aquatic habitat changes over time, and visualize how habitat is shrinking or disappearing completely.
Besides larger global studies we will focus on rare and well known species all over the world to show the plight of their habitats as individual case studies.
Come and Join us on Facebook or when possible for live broadcasts from the field.

In October 2016 Heiko Bleher with 2 companions, Kirill Dmitriev from Russia and Marc Beeston from England, traveled to one of the most remore areas in Colombia – Tarapaca, where they took a boat and traveled up on Rio Putumayo exploring its affluents. Difficulties to penetrate the virgin Amazon jungle, many new fishes and unforgettable experience. This video is made in Russian and will be translated very soon into English.

Snorkeling in the Amazon River basin can be both dangerous and rewarding. In this Fincast come along as Mike Tuccinardi takes us underwater to the natural world that includes popular aquarium fish. John interviews Mike as he describes the beautiful underwater video he recorded in the Rio Negro river -- one of the largest tributaries to the Amazon. Mike reveals how he recorded the video, and discusses the fish that appear on camera. He also talks about swimming unknowingly over and around anacondas and dangerous electric eels.

n part 2 of our interview with world traveler and aquarium adventurer Mike Tuccinardi, we look at his video from a snorkeling trip in the Rio Negro with an eye toward our own aquariums. In this Fincast, Mike describes how he is using what he saw in the river to re-create habitats that make his fish behave more naturally in an aquarium environment.

Some underwater footage of fish fauna found in the upper part of the Aripo River in Trinidad.... Species present are : Poecilia reticulata ( guppy fish), Anablepsoides hartii ( Jumping guabine), Ancistrus maracasae ( Jumbie teta), Hypostomus robinii ( Teta)... suprisingly missing are the larger predators of the guppies such as Aequidens pulcher ( Blue coscarob) Cichlasoma taenia ( Brown coscarob) and ( Crenicichla sp.) ( Melay, Matawal). However they were found inhabiting the lower parts of the river.
